Another Nollywood Star Dies

It has been confirmed that the Nigerian movie industry has lost another movie gem, Geraldine Ekeocha. Geraldine, according to sources, died Sunday, September 4 at the University Teaching Hospital (NUTH) Ifuku, Enugu State in Nigeria.

News of her death filtered into news wires about a week ago but was not deemed credible because there was no formal confirmation from the actress’ relations. Her death was finally confirmed by the Enugu chapter of the Actors’ Guild of Nigeria (AGN).

Her unfortunate death is coming after the Nigerian industry was thrown into mourning after the death of other veteran actors, Ashley Nwosu and Sam Loco Efe. Geraldine Ekeocha, according to sources, passed away during a fibroid operation.

The 56-year-old veteran actress is one of Nollywood’s most talented, appearing in over 80 movies including Heavy Storm and Tears in Marriage, and featured in several soap operas many still running on television.

Geraldine hailed from Enugu State where her acting career began; she left behind 7 children - 6 girls and a boy. Family members, according sources, are yet to announce dates for the funeral and burial of the actress.
