Actress Yvonne Nelson Says ‘I’m Available for Nigerian Men’

Any day, anytime Yvonne Nelson is one actress to behold with a superb body and sexy long legs. A popular face in Ghollywood, Yvonne has endeared herself to a large crowd of fans in the Nigeria movie industry – Nollywood.
Showtime Celebrity cornered her at a movie location in Festac Town, Lagos, recently, where she speaks on her alleged ban by the movie producers in Ghana, her relationships with Jim Iyke, her love life and many more. Enjoy the interesting chat…..
You were a model before going into acting. How has the journey been so far?
I wasn’t modeling. It just happened by chance. I actually took part in Miss Ghana beauty pageant in 2005. It has been fun and I love what I’m doing. I have a degree in Human Resources Management but I choose to concentrate on my acting career.
It’s something I love and people are appreciating what I’m doing presently. I’m making all my fans all over the world proud. I’m making my nation proud. I’m a very patriotic person and it is all about putting my country and Africa at large on top of the chart.
Did you set out in life to become an actress or did you enter the profession by accident?
When I was growing up, I was rather interested in music. I remember when I was in secondary school, I used to perform on stage. I was always into entertainment. I wouldn’t say acting was just by the way. It was meant to be and it happened. One thing is that they are all about entertainment. You walk into the roles or they come your way?
I never attended any audition. One Ghanaian producer , Abdusalam Umuni, owner of Versus Films brought me into the industry. He saw me and developed interest in giving me a role in his new movie then. Even when I told him I was not an actress and I wouldn’t want to be one, he convinced me to pick up the role. That was how it all started. I never attended any audition, the roles came my way. It was meant to be.
Did you win the Miss Ghana beauty pageant?
I didn’t win the contest. But I won two other awards out of five awards I entered for. I was among the last five contestants during the contest. I’m sure if I had won the beauty contest, I wouldn’t have become an actress. So, it’s good that I didn’t win Miss Ghana Beauty pageant, and it’s because I didn’t win that I’m into acting today. Everything happens in life for a reason . Recently, Ghanaian movie producers said they lifted the six -month ban slammed on you.
I was not aware of any ban. If something is made official or if somebody is officially banned, there should be a letter notifying that person of such ban. But nobody gave me any letter. I think this whole thing started as a rumour and later, it became bigger by the day.
While the alleged ban lasted, were you still working in Ghana?
I branched out into business during that period. I opened my shop and I also started my hair line. I was travelling all over the world. My name was everywhere and people were calling me on phone from every part of the world concerning the ban. I didn’t even feel anything. I was very busy during that period. In fact , that was the busiest moment of my life.
They said you were rude to one of the producers that employed you?
Rude! I shot two movies for the producer in question, “Back to Back”. If I was rude to him , I wouldn’t have been on his set. Yes, a misunderstanding is bound to happen while on set. When a producer wants to take advantage of someone and people are not privileged to listen to my own side of the story, they will begin to draw conclusions that one is rude or arrogant. It’s sad.
I’m only ensuring that nobody takes advantage of me while on set. Ghanian artistes hardly voice out their feelings. Sometimes, they find it difficult to complain because they are afraid that the producers might get annoyed and decide not to give them roles again.
For me, if you do something that is wrong, I will not hesitate to tell you so. While on set, artistes usually complain just as producers also complain. I know that as the faces in front of the camera, the producers are duty-bound to care for us and respect our rights. We should be their number one priority.
So, all is well with you at the moment?
Nothing has been wrong with me. It’s unfortunate that people tend to believe everything they read in the dailies. Sometimes, they think that without acting, I cannot exist. No! Absolutely, no. I am about to do my Masters Degree now and I have set up businesses that can sustain me throughout the rest of my life.
If I don’t act for six months, it does not mean it is the end of my life. I am busy doing other things. And I’m very happy with my life. It’s very sad when people sympathise with me without actually knowing half of the story. I am a very strong woman and I don’t allow all these distractions to affect me in any way. In life, things happen and later, one moves on.
So you are being misrepresented in the media?
I will tell you something about the press in Ghana. I will say it here because I’m a very outspoken person. I’m sure it is also obtainable in Nigeria. What the press guys haven’t seen or heard , they will sit back and fabricate stories because they want to sell their papers.
For instance, the latest story in town is that ‘’Yvonne Nelson is pregnant for Sheyi Emmanuel Adebayor, a Togolese footballer who plays for Manchester City as a striker. Where are they getting these stories from? I met Adebayor only but once. Why would anybody come up with this kind of story?
That’s why you never hear that Yvonne Nelson is granting interviews to the press. Whether I grant them interviews or not, they would still go ahead and write things I never said. Back in Ghana, I grant interviews to only two journalists.
All I know is that in the movie I shot recently, I played a role of a pregnant woman. Later, I twitted the photography on Twitter, saying ‘I’m playing the role of a pregnant woman in my new movie…that was all’. Sometimes, you sit back and you are quiet. At other times, you read these stories and you would want to laugh. In fact, some of the stories are shocking and damaging. But no matter what anybody would say, at the end of the day, this is a job that puts food on my table. They will continue to talk about me.
Your parents’ reaction!
My family is supportive. My mum knows the kind of a daughter she has. I live with my parents under the same roof. And most times, when they read these stories, they cannot help but laugh.
And that you were dating Jim Iyke?
Jim Iyke and I shot a movie in Ghana titled “Back to Back.” A Nigerian artiste came to Ghana to work. I can’t watch him struggle to go to the car park to board a taxi, or ride in a producer’s car. What we do as artistes is that we try to help ourselves.
I’m here in Nigeria and I’m sitting in Bobby’s car, the same way I tried to be of assistance to Jim Iyke. He was constantly sitting in my car, as I was picking him up as well as taking him back to his hotel after the day’s production. And before I knew what was happening, rumours started flying that Jim Iyke and I were dating. I guess all these things are happening to me because I’m the only single lady among my colleagues. Jackie Appiah is married just as Majid is married. There is no other single lady to attack apart from myself.
You are always keeping to yourself.
I never had a party in my life. I don’t smoke and I don’t drink either. If I’m not shooting, I’m always at home. I live a very simple life.
Do your actions on screen betray your true nature?
Well, I know how to play my roles very well. That’s what I can say.
People believe an artiste lives at least 25 percent of his or her real character in a role he or she plays in a movie?
I don’t agree with you. Does it mean that if one plays the role of a mad woman, there is the tendency that the person possesses some traits of madness in him or her. I know a couple of actors who play the role of pastors and yet they smoke and drink a lot. People should learn how to differentiate what we do on set and our real lives.
Your role in “Heart of Men”, a Ghanaian soft-porn movie discouraged some of your fans who wondered how much you were paid to expose some vital parts of your body in that movie?
Really! They were not happy with me? But that was one of my best films so far. I never exposed any part of my body. Why do you get it twisted? It was Jackie Appiah and Majid who exposed themselves. I only kissed. Jackie exposed her áss’ and nobody said anything as well as Majid did.
I remember kissing with Majid and John Dumelo. The only thing I did which I know people would raise eyebrow was the poster where I exposed part of my body, not in the movie. My pose in the poster was new to the Ghanaian and Nigerian markets.
Do you feel bad each time you kiss on set?
Why will I feel bad? If I feel bad, it means I’m not real on screen. It is not like deep kissing, as lovers do, because people are around us there.
Are you comfortable with the way the soft-porn movies are thriving in Ghana today?
I’m not in a position to defend what the producers are doing presently because most of them I guess want to sell their movies.
About three months ago, you played the role of Chief Bridesmaid to actress Mercy Johnson. Your fans are wondering when the wedding bell will ring for you?
Very soon. Just keep your fingers crossed, you will be informed.
Were you surprised when Mercy asked you to be her Chief Bridesmaid?
Yes, I was surprised but I was not surprised. At first, I thought she was playing a prank on me. It was when she insisted that I realised she meant it. I was very excited and happy for her. I came to support a friend.
Most times, you are in Nigeria. Are scripts not coming your way again in Ghana?
I shot about four movies in Ghana before embarking on this trip to Nigeria. Those who think I’m always in Nigeria don’t know anything about my movement. I’m hardly in Nigeria. And each time, I’m here, I’m always in a hurry to return to Ghana.
The way you talked about your Nigerian fans leaves room for suspicion. If given an opportunity, would you marry a Nigerian?
Yes, I love Nigerian men. Nigerian men are nice people. There are no two ways about it. I appreciate them and they are like brothers to us. When Nigerian men like you, they will walk up to you to tell you so. Sometimes, when I’m in Nigeria, I hardly remember that I’m not in Ghana except when there is power failure. That’s when it dawns me that I’m in Nigeria. The country is like home to me. The men appreciate what I’m doing presently on screen.
Is that an open invitation to the Nigerian men?
Yes, I love them and they love me too.
How would you describe the kind of relationship that exists between you, Jackie Appiah and Nadia Buari?
God created three of us differently. What Jackie has, Nadia doesn’t possess, and what Nadia possesses, Yvonne Nelson has not, and what I’m endowed with, they lack. I’m not competing with anybody in the industry.
If a producer has a role he wants Yvonne Nelson to play in his production, he cannot give that role out to another actress, except Yvonne Nelson. Just as a producer in Nigeria has Genevieve in mind when he is casting a role, nobody can take it away from her. I don’t know why there are lots of fighting, back-biting, hatred and beefing in the industry. They are my friends any way.
Did you experience a rosy childhood?
I grew up like every other average Ghanaian girl. I attended one of the best secondary schools in Ghana. I read Human Resource Management at the Central University College in Ghana. I grew up in a family of three children, I happen to be the last child.
What is it that your fans don’t know about you?
I’m a very funny and down-to-earth person. But at the same time, I’m a shy person too. People judge me from a distance because of the job I do. They should get close to understand who I am.
How often have you acted nude on set?
I wish I could do it, but I can’t. I have had a lot of offers to act nude but I rejected them. I love what I’m doing. I can’t see myself doing that for any price.
Do you have a love life?
I hardly talk about that part of my life. But I’m okay and happy with whoever, and whatever I’m doing presently with my life.
I mean, do you find time to love at all?
Of course, I fall in love because I’m human. I believe that no matter how hard or soft one tries to be, there is always a time, when he or she falls in love. People always fall in love and I’m no exception.
But I’m sure you have never suffered any heart break.
When I started dating, I experienced a heart break. That was the first real relationship I ever had in my life.
…And you were hurt terribly!
Not really. It was a learning process for me.
You gave back to society last year when you set up a Foundation back in your country. Why the focus on school children?
I set up a Foundation called Yvonne Nelson Glaucoma Foundation, which was launched October 2010. Glaucoma has to do with the eyes and it’s a silent killer disease. My grandmother died of the disease. I decided to set up the Foundation to help create awareness about the deadly disease. I’m working with a team of experts in Ghana. That’s the only way I can give back to the society.

NIGERIA'S FINEST SAMSONG STORMS GHANA ON XMAS DAY

SAMSONG OF' BIANULE FAME' ARRIVES TOMMORROW FOR XMAS CONCERT

Nigeria’s gospel superstar, Samsong, according to raving news for some time now among the gospel music circuit in Ghana and media folks will storm Ghana on Christmas day in a grand style. The award-winning and ever prolific gospel artist is expected, as part of his itinerary,y to be a guest artist on an annual grand Christmas concert in the capital of Accra and thereafter will likely do a couple of collaborations with some top Ghanaian gospel acts before heading back home.

The details surrounding the raving news about Samsong’s coming became clearer when Ghana’s leading contemporary gospel music minister, Danny Nettey, confirmed Samsong’s coming and promo of Danny’s annual Christmas concert  with his friends began running on air and across social media.

I can confirm to you that our dear friend, Samsong, whose music everyone loves is coming to town to be part of my annual Christmas concert which is dubbed ‘Christmas with Danny Nettey and Friends’ as guest minister. He is coming with his wife and child to spend Christmas in Ghana for the first time and is delighted to be on the concert with us- Nii Okai, Ps. Helen Yawson, Cwesi Oteng and yours truly- on Christmas day at La Palm, 6pm,’ Danny revealed on Citi FM’s flagship gospel music programme on Sundays,  ‘Psalms, Hymns and Spiritual Songs’.

Born Samson Uche Mogekwu, in Delta State, Nigeria, Samsong discovered his talent for singing while in high school and was monikered ‘Samsong’ because of his love for songs. Samsong later attended college, and majored in Accounting. In 1991, he formed a quartet known as Praise Creation. They were signed to Ivory Music Label, and released their debut album in 1996 titled "Best of Life".

The group, however, broke up and Samsong became a solo artist, releasing his debut CD in 2002, titled "Count Your Blessings". His album was a success, garnering airplay, and won him The Psalmist Award that same year.  Later a sophomore CD was released in 2004, titled "Still Counting" with which he continued his award winning streak, snagging The Best Male Vocalist of the Year Award at Today's Music Award in 2004, and Best Male Vocalist of The Year Award in 2005 at The Amen Awards.

Samsong had become a bona fide celebrity and gospel star at this point, having songs and video in rotation radio and TV, and receiving top billing on concerts. At The Vigoma Awards in 2005, he received The Best Video of The Year Award. His third release titled "The World of My Dreams" was issued in 2007, and was his most ambitious release yet. It featured a remake of the mega hit "One Love" by music icon Onyeka Onwenu, in which he performed a duet with her. The CD also featured a duet with international superstars Styl-Plus titled Live Right. His ambitious output was recognized with and he was awarded with The Grace Honorary Award for Excellence, that same year
.
In 2008, he was nominated for The Best Gospel Artist at The Nigerian Entertainment Awards (NEA) held in New York City. He embarked on an international tour to promote his CD, with stops at South Africa, the United Kingdom and Germany. In Germany, he recorded and performed with Chris Lass, the famous German gospel producer and artist. His most recent headlining tour was in August 2009. He toured the island of Seychelles, and was privileged to have dinner with the Vice President, Joseph Belmont.

Samsong released his ‘Church Boy’ CD in 2010, a testament of his growth as a minister of God through music and revealed his unique blend of native Nigerian rhythms with cross over R&B rhythms and vocal patterns.  In Ghana and all over Africa, Samsong is known for his hit songs ‘Bianule’ and ‘Higher Higher’.

In between the appearances, Sarkodie got to teach Ghana’s preferred dance of the moment to top British acts like Chipmunk and Wretch 32.

His musical icon is Snoop Doggy Dogg hence the name “Prince Doggy Dawg” and the Ghanaian flag has a black star in the center of it which explains why he also goes by the name “Blackstar.” He was born in Accra, Ghana, on October 19th, 1985. Asem Clears Rape Allegation

After Several months he refused to comment about rape allegations leveled against him some time this year, Ghanaian rapper Asem, born with the name Nana Wiafe Asante Mensah, has finally replied critics via his new single titled ‘Last Song’, produced by Magnom.

The song’s lyrics tried to tackle the problems that he went through the year, from rape allegations and his GLO deal to his issues with Lynx Entertainment. The song, he said, was his last for the year 2011, labeling the year as tough for him.

Its lyrics spoke about how he was not afraid of certain people who wanted to take his shine away from him. He also took some time to describe his kind of women, possibly trying to hint that the girl in the rape brouhaha was not his type. “I like girl wey dey shoto with glory, independent girls with their bottom glory,” he rapped.

If I didn’t say it they say I say it. I didn’t rape, they say I raped. They get like I stop singing. But because of GLO, I’m satisfied. This be the last song of the year, so lend me your eyes. I know year you have been waiting for this.” Sometime this year, the hip-hop musician allegedly drugged, raped and impregnated a teenage girl.

The girl’s name was given simply as Queenie and her real age remains a mystery. She claimed to be 17 but her mother swore heaven and earth she was 15. The matter got complicated as both daughter and mother said the pregnancy had been aborted and that the alleged rape happened last year but no police report was made.

Asem flatly denied all three allegations but said he would not pass comments on it publicly because his management intended taking a legal action against his accusers. Not long after, Asem parted ways with Lynx Entertainment to form his record label.

Asem is a product of the Ghana Institute of Journalism and had his secondary education at St. Peter’s Senior High School. He is currently one of the best artistes that Lynx Entertainment ever recorded and is best remembered for hit songs like ‘Give Me Blow’, ‘2010 Filla’, ‘Wu B3 Da Ntem’, ‘No More Kpayor’, ‘School De Be’ and ‘Pigaro’.

The Real Reason Why Sarkodie Pulled Out Of The T-Pain Show Unveiled

Kelvin Poku Boateng, CEO of Kumasi's premier event management group, Homeproud Entertainment, has debunked all assertions and rumors making rounds in the country that, the undisputed fastest rapper in the country, Sarkodie might just not make it for the much anticipated grand event which will feature himself and two of the nation's finest musicians, Kwabena Kwabena and Becca at the "24th nite concert" slated for the Royal Lamerta Hotel in Kumasi.
The young, intrepid and industrious chap Kelvin, in a strongly worded statement to Communication Strategist and Blogger, Kwabena Agyeman-Kobia, intimated that his attention had been drawn to a publication on PeaceFMOnline.com citing other reasons for the 'Azonto King's exit from the T-Pain show, saying the Tema whizz kid who has earned himself the accolade of "King of Azonto" with his rap dexterity, will be performing to his teeming fans in Kumasi and that the Garden City would be witnessing the true definition of Azonto on the 24th of December.
In a related development however, the rapperholic has confirmed his participation in the Kumasi event in a radio interview with DJ Apuzo of Luv 99.5FM in Kumasi on his late afternoon show, 'the drive time.'

Actress Nana Ama MacBrown out with 2Toff

Hip life duo, Ulrich Addy (Red Eye) and Richard Oguns (Ogunskele) who make up 2Toff, have released yet another song "I’m Sorry" featuring Nana Ama MacBrown.

According the duo who have three albums to their credit, their latest, I’m Sorry will take Ghana by storm especially bringing Nana Ama MacBrwon on board.

Asked why they went in for Nana Ama MacBrown and not Efya, Irene, Becca or any other female artist who are already known music artistes, 2 Toff said Nana Ama MacBrown can be considered as one of the best female musician a fact most people are unaware of.
“We realised Nana Ama MacBrown has a very good voice after we listened to her on a few occasions, her voice is perfect that is why we featured her on our new single,” 2Toff said.
Their latest, "I’m Sorry", which is set to be released next week was recorded, mixed and mastered at 2 Toff studios.
2Toff believes despite football grabbing the attention of Ghanaians, music will take its rightful place on the scene in the not too distant future.
“The industry is gradually collapsing because all the attention has been shifted to soccer. Ghanaian music is already out there on the international market but a lot more needs to be done to make it flourish,” they added.
“We went away for some years but we are fully back. We know our fans missed us and we missed them too. We are now growing bigger and better and we believe nothing is going to stop us from what we enjoy doing most.
When contacted, the bubbly actress cum singer disclosed that the ability to sing gracefully has always been there, but was awaiting the the right moment.
According to her, she will venture into full time singing very soon.
The last album 2Toff released was titled "Back Again" and comprised tracks like Ma Swagga Back, My Soul, Yebre Mo Odo ft S.K Original, Hosla and Mama.

Buk Bak denies ditching 4x4

Music duo, Buk Bak, has denied stories making the rounds that the group deliberately ditched music trio, 4x4, during their album launch at the Osu Oxford Street Friday, December 9.

Buk Bak is widely credited with discovering and guiding 4x4 into the phenomenal trio it is today and while Buk Bak’s name was among the list of artistes billed to perform at album launch, they failed to show up.

Soon after the successful launch of the album, which saw all the other billed artistes performing, Captain Planet, a member of 4x4 expressed his disappointment to Myjoyonline, saying their ‘fathers’ and mentors did not show up to support them.
He said Buk Bak did not give any indication that they were not going to turn up for the launch and was therefore surprised at their absence.
As at news time that Myjoyonline contacted Captain Planet, he said Buk Bak had still not contacted them to say why they failed to turn up for the launch even though they were invited. While he will not call it a sabotage, he will not rule out the possibility.
But Buk Bak refuted the claim in an interview with Myjoyonline. Bright Boateng popularly known as Blinks Sparkles, a member of the group said “If it’s coming from my boys (4x4) then I will be surprised …”
He explained that, “Prior to the day of the show something came up, something that we can’t disclose. I called one of the boys and told him [something urgent came up] so I wouldn’t be able to make it so I had to go take care of it out of town." Brothers
Bright said he knew 4x4 would understand, stating “I spoke to CoDed about it, he was like cool.” Bright lamented however, “I felt disappointed myself for not showing up.”
Ronny Coaches, another member of Buk Bak quizzed, “What will Buk Bak have against 4x4?” explaining that “from day one we’ve been with them … we’ve been like brothers since day one, nothing won’t stop us from being on their show and we don’t have any misunderstanding with them.”
Bright vehemently denied having any beef with 4x4, stating “I can’t hate on my own success. This is something I started so why should I hate on my own success?”

Nude Picture of Tiffany Leaks After Failed Blackmail Attempt

Various social networks have started buzzing with a topless nude picture of Ghanaian female rapper, Tiffany that were leaked following failed attempts by a blackmailer to extract huge sums of money from the rapper.

According to sources, a few weeks before the rapper travelled to the UK for a streak of performances, she was robbed at her home where her money, blackberry phone and other personal belongings were stolen.

She reported the case to the Tema Community 18 Police after the incident happen and although traumatized by the event, the rapper recovered quickly from the burglary and went to the UK for her shows and also focused on recording her upcoming debut album.

Tiffany has however not known peace after her performance at the Red Lipsticks music concert as she has been receiving calls from an unknown man who threatened to leak her nude pictures if she did not pay up. According to sources, it appears that the blackmailer got the nude pictures from Tiffany’s blackberry phone that was stolen from her home.

The blackmailer requested for 40,000 dollars which Tiffany bargained down to about 15,000 ghc. After an initial agreement to settle the blackmailer, negotiations failed and he came back to make further outrageous demands. Some preliminary investigation suggests that the blackmailer is a Nigerian based on the calls he made.

Over the weekend, a picture of Tiffany in a bathroom robe showing her breasts was leaked on blackberry messenger, Facebook and other social networks while the blackmailer threatens to release further pictures if his demands are not met.

According to sources, the rapper who is currently in South Africa promoting her new single, ‘Rock Ma Body’ featuring Killbeats is worried about the development but is committed to working on her music while the police continue investigations on the robbery and subsequent blackmails.

D-Black abandons Kwaku T In the Vodafone Copyright Infringement Case

Ghana’s Hip-Pop sensation Kwaku T finds himself stack against the odds, in what could potentially be a contemporary rendition of the biblical David and Goliath tale, as he faces a telecommunication giant in a litigation which is by far the biggest test yet for Ghana’s copy right protect laws.

He will not relent in becoming the first musician in Ghana to take on a corporate entity in the law courts and win, for the violation of his intellectual property rights.

False reports yesterday suggested that he and his partner in the suit D-Black had been paid off by Vodafone Ghana to withdraw the case from court but Kwaku T has denied this.

What actually emerged yesterday during their court session is that counsel for D-Black said his client has decided to pull out of the case leaving his buddy, Kwaku T in the cold. It remains unclear, however, where his pull-out was indeed influence by some pay-off.

The Ghana rep at the second edition of Big Brother Africa remains optimistic despite the latest development. In his own words: “The case has taken various twist and turns but we're on the winning side, if things are handled properly from here on in. They're just stretching the settlement and being disrespectful at the moment. It’s a joint civil suit and just last week they bought off my co-plaintiff D-Black.”

D-Black is said to have pulled out because he feels his career will be threatened should he continue with the case. His lawyer told an Accra Commercial Court Judge that the case will go on without D-Black since he was not interested in the case.

The two originally proceeded to prosecute their case in court after Vodafone Ghana became oblivious to letters form their counsels which requested of the telecom company to stop using the advert created with their song ‘Move’; of which their consent had not been sought.

Vodafone Ghana’s defence is that, they consulted COSGA before using the song but Kwaku T, who is not a member of COSGA, insists that COSGA could not have permitted the use of the song on their behalf. COSGA has refused to testify in the case.

“It’s a landmark case completely alien to Ghana judicial systems. We would be setting a precedent and a moral one at that by winning. If we win, the corporate multinational that wants to take advantage of the blood sweat and toil of the artist in Ghana will think twice,” Kwaku T said with conviction.

No MTV Africa Music Awards (MAMA) for 2011?

Following the addition of ‘World Wide Act’ category to the 2011 MTV European Music Awards (EMA), which saw nominations for African acts for the Africa/ India/ Middle East regions, I have been wondering if that means that the MTV Africa Music Awards (MAMA) will not take place this year.

Voters in the Africa/ India/ Middle East regions had to chose between Nigeria’s Wizkid, Congo DR’s Fally Ipupa, Egyptian Abdelfattah Grini, Angolan Cabo Snoop, and South Africa’s Black Coffee and Scribe for a representations in the final ceremony. After weeks of voting Big Bang won for the Asia Pacific region and advanced to the finals along with Abdelfattah Grini (Africa/India/Middle East), Lena (Europe), Restart (Latin America), and Britney Spears (North America). It would be recollected that MTV started recognizing the works of African acts first on the MTV European Music Awards when the ‘Best African Act’ category was instituted in 2005 with 2face Idibia winning the nod. Freshly Ground won the award the following year and in 2007, Dbanj won the last nod before the MTV Africa Music Awards was launched. The MAMA has been holding since 2008 and last year’s edition was held in Lagos, Nigeria. However it is not clear whether the MAMA will hold this year since the usual buzz that leads to the main ceremony has been clearly missing. It’s already the second week in November, and there are no signs nominations, Road to MAMA parties among others. Has the MAMA been cancelled? Are we going back to the days of African acts competing for a single honour at the EMA or as it stood this year, competing with world acts?Meanwhile, Korean group, Big Bang won the ‘World Wide Act’ award at Sunday’s MTV Europe Music Awards ceremony in Belfast, Northern Ireland. Here is the full list of winners:

Some Angry fan throws bottle at 4×4 on stage

Some angry fan threw a bottle at music group 4×4 while they were performing on stage in Tarkoradi Saturday.
The trio, made of Captain Planet, CoDed and Fresh Prince, was performing at an open-air concert at the SRC week celebration of the Tarkoradi Polytechnic.

The bottle hit CoDed (formerly Abortion) who angrily threw the mic away and walked off the stage.

Captain Planet confirmed the incident to Myjoyonline.com Sunday.

He said “They hit him with a bottle on stage so he went to the backstage but Fresh Prince and I were still on stage and we did the songs.”

He further explained that, “the guys (organisers) didn’t have any security and they allowed the town boys, so it was one of those rude boys from town who threw the bottle. The show was outside, it wasn’t in their auditorium.”

He added that it was rather unfortunate that they couldn’t pin-point the culprit for him/her to be apprehended.

Captain Planet revealed that CoDed did not sustain any physical injuries. “He just said the bottle hit him hard on the shoulder he is fine.”

The incident, which preceded their performance at the first of four-venue tour of Tic Tac – Tic Tac’s Club 2 Club tour – at the Vienna City Nite Club in Tarkoradi, prevented CoDed from performing at that event.

Captain Planet said “Fresh Prince and I alone stormed there and killed it at the Vienna City Nite club.”

Hiplife Group Buk Bak Exposed!

Buk Bak, Ghana’s exciting musical duo, has been caught on camera in a fishing canoe along the Chorkor beach in Accra, singing their new song, ‘Fisherman’s Anthem: You Saw Me’.

The group, comprising Prince Bright aka Bling Sparkles and Ronnie Coches, recently bounced back to mainstream music after abandoning the stage for some five years. Buk Bak is on record as the first hiplife group in Ghana to be successful with Ga lyrics and also top music charts with songs in Twi, English and Pidgin.

NEWS-ONE caught up with Bright and Ronnie for an exclusive chat:
Fisherman’s Anthem The idea is to launch this album by the end of the year. For now we are releasing the tracks in singles and we are grateful to Ghana that we have been accepted back. When we see people singing and dancing to the track, we just get a sort of encouragement. I think we should salute radio guys and all of you for this.
Profane
‘Fisherman’s Friend: You Saw Me’ is not profane. It may be interpreted in Ga to sound a bit of what you are thinking but that is not the aim. We do not do profane songs, it is not our style and we have never believed that a song should be profane before it sells.

We have the track record to prove this. Take it from the days of ‘Komi Ke Kena’ all through ‘Condom’ and ‘What Dem Plan’ and you would get an understanding of what we stand for. We stand for entertainment and not profanity.

The Dream
We are happy to be back in music and we are ready to do our best to satisfy our fans. By God’s grace, we shall not disappoint any of you guys. We have something to offer this country and that is what keeps driving us. We have a contribution to make, a mission to accomplish and a music industry to build.

We dream of helping the upcoming ones to become great and even greater than us. Take for instance 4×4 or Castro or Pope Skinny or K-2 and you would understand our contribution to this industry. They all trace their history to Buk Bak and if we can do it for them, we can do it for the current upcoming ones too.

The Comeback
On December 17 this year, we shall stage the Buk Bak Comeback Concert and that is what we are working on for now. It would be Buk Bak and friends and we can assure you that the show would be great. It does not mean we would stay away from shows. We would continue to honor invitations and respond to contracts.

The Breakup
That happened in the past, we would like to focus on the future. No serious person keeps living in the past. Something happened, we’ve expressed regret and learnt from our mistakes, the way forward is to move on and plan for the future but not to keep talking about the past.

Once we have learnt a lesson from that, we should move on. We should focus on the album we are working on as we continue to rehearse for shows.

Tic Tac starts Club 2 Club tour November 5

One Ghana’s Most Wanted  celebrated and seasoned rap artistes, Nana Kwaku Duah popularly known on stage as Tic Tac, is about to embarking on a Club 2 Club tour this November.

With six albums to his credit, Tic Tac still remains an unassailable artiste with immense experience in his belt, gifted with an original style of flow that sets him apart from the field.

Fefe ne Efe, Philomena, Kangaroo, Shoddies, Beware of dogs and other international hits by Tic over the years have been the toast of several events and radio plays.

Tic Tac is about to release his seventh album, Ghana 4 U which already has two hot tracks, In The Gallo which features Gyadu Blay Ambulley and Feel The Heat also featuring the US based The Canz and Myshel, enjoying rotations on radio.

The tour which is a pre-album, party and video premiere is planned to give fans an opportunity to enjoy the first time showing of the two videos In the Gallo and Feel The Heat.

The Club 2 Club tour, according to Tic Tac who spoke to Joy FM (ACCRA) in an interview,That this is his “seventh album and the number seven(7) means a lot to him because of that he thought of going to the clubs with the music and also giving my fans the opportunity to have that one-on-one interaction for the first time and also see me perform snippets of the tracks they should expect from my upcoming album.”

The tour will take Tic Tac to Vienna City Nite Clubs in Takoradi, Kumasi, Accra and Tema, beginning November 5 from Tarkoradi.

Revelers in Kumasi will feel the Tic Tac magic on November 12 when the tour hits Oseikrom. Tema and Accra will have theirs on November 19 and November 26 respectively.

Although Tic Tac will headline this tour, other chart topping acts have been billed to make appearances on the tour. He will not give out names but said, “Trust me I am bringing on board some of the biggest names when it comes to Ghanaian music today.”

Tic Tac explained that the rationale behind the choice to get close to his fans via the night clubs is that “most of the songs make hits through the clubs and there are some die-hard Tic Tac fans who will always love to go to the club. Such fans are the primary targets.”

We are trying to satisfy people who go to the clubs to listen to our music and not only listen to it from other mediums like the TV.”

Stay J, Eduwuji fight over "Yen ko nkuaa"

Not long ago, this two(2) Musicians came out with the only song “Yen Ko nkuaa” creating waves on the music scene since it was released last March, but it is also wedging a huge rift between two hip life artistes: Eduwuji and Stay J.

Both artistes are laying claim to the song. While Eduwuji, real name Raymond Eduwuji Gbedze, is accusing Stay J of breaching the contract between them not to sing the song at shows without him since he (Eduwuji) had made a one off payment of GH¢1,500 to Stay J to just feature on it, Stay J of “Shashewoowo” fame claims he has every right to perform “Yen ko nkuaa” without Eduwuji because he is the original composer of the song.

In an interview with Graphic Showbiz last Tuesday, Eduwuji said he wrote the entire song by himself and that Stay J only sang the Twi part.

“In fact it was a demo I wanted to master at sound engineer, Kaywa's studio and because we were both then on the same record label, Under One Entertainment, the management suggested that Stay J who was already out with “Shashewoowo”, should do the chorus which he did, but Stay J is not the owner of the song,” Eduwuji said.

“In fact the chorus which Stay J sings: “So me ha na so me ha……” was initially written in English as “Hold my here, hold that” and he only translated it into Twi. If the song belongs to him, why did I have to pay him GH¢1,500 to feature on it?” he asked.

Eduwoji said Stay J had performed the song on several platforms knowing he didn't have the right to do so. “He goes about saying the song is his. I have respected him all this time but it seems he has no regard for contracts. If this situation continues, I'm afraid I have no option than to get my lawyers to write to him”, Eduwuji stated.

William Kojo Johnson, aka Stay J, however, said after releasing “Shashewowo”, he decided to help Eduwuji out by featuring him on Yen Ko nkuaa.

“It's rather unfortunate Eduwuji is saying he owns the song. I only asked him to sing on “Yen Ko nkuaa” just because we were on the same record label. I felt because he sang only in Ewe, it would be difficult for him as an up-coming artiste, so I decided to feature him on “Yen Ko nkuaa” to get him the exposure. Is this my reward for helping him out?” asked Stay J.

Stay J said if Eduwuji wants to ride on his back to be famous he has no problem with that but he cannot accept the lies he (Eduwuji) is peddling around about the song.

“Yen ko nkuaa” was supposed to be released on an Under One Entertainment compilation but out of greed, Eduwuji claimed ownership of the song. I rest my case in the hands of God, but I know the truth about who actually owns the song will come out one day,” said Stay J.

Stay J also denied the allegation that he was paid GH¢1,500 by Eduwuji's management not to perform the song on any platform.

“The money was rather paid to me for allowing him to sing the Ewe part of my song. My manager asked Eduwuji to take care of the recording of the beat and video clip which cost GH¢ 1000 if they wanted to be part of the song. I also demanded for additional GH¢500 for the clothes I had bought for the video clip. That's how come they gave me GH¢ 1,500”, he added.

Kwabena Kwabena Fights For Obour

Ghana’s sensational singer, Kwabena Kwabena has condemned the behaviour of some Ghanaians who have started criticizing MUSIGA President Bice Osei Kufuor, few months after taking over the mantle of the music union.

Kwabena Kwabena was upset at the time of speaking to The Weekend Moment saying “Obour is barely some few weeks old in office and he is just about to kick start his plans, but some Ghanaians have already started criticizing the president, a thing that may cause the downfall of the union if not checked”.

He called on Obour to stay focus and never allow any criticism that may come from any corner of the country to destruct him from his intentions for the union.

He continued that “the behaviour of Ghanaians doesn’t speak well of us and its unfortunate to see these things increasing daily in the country, not only in the music cycles but in how we do politics in the country”. The silky voice hi-life singer said plans are far advanced to make the Ghana music industry a formidable one in no time.

“Just at the ruling N.D.C took over from N.P.P administration, the same as the sitting president Obour also took from Diana Hopeson setting regulations and structures”. He said.

He charged Ghanaians to unite and make the country a better place to stay, instead of turning everything into politics in the country.
