Yaw Siki a Tema Based Rapper voice began as a soft low innocent voice that has now grown into a distinct and undeniable voice. His songs are often lyrically intelligent, rather than the rash and boastful ones we hear.
Yaw Siki can be best described as a deep thinker with a wild imagination, a quick wit and a sharp tongue.
The young man of humble beginnings also doubles as a journalist born in Tema. So far, Yaw Siki is able to deal with pressure from fame and is grateful to his management team too. Even though he was based in Tema, he came all the way down to Accra, battling rappers that put him in touch with countless music managers, label owners and other industry heavyweights after his performances.
Yaw Siki is poised to officially enter the game as the industry's next big thing. Ghanaian music fans should prepare a space on their wall for hiplife/hiphop's new poster child. Far from an overnight success, Yaw Siki preparing himself to be in the game for a time.
“We are looking forward to the end of this year, if things go as planned it will be released nationwide. I can promise my fans a unique style, good beats, quality music and something everybody can relate to. Before I forget the title will be “High Technique”, he said about his album release.
Do you think there’s a difference between Tema and Accra swagger? “Not really, the only difference I feel is that Tema artistes are more united. At the end of the day there is no Greater Accra without the other”, he said.
Yaw Siki too had to experience the hardships of the music industry through setbacks in his early career. He began releasing mixtape songs like ‘Luk Sharp’, ‘Mi Lobi’ and “Don’t give up” which were inspirational to him and developed a fan base on the internet. And now Yaw Siki is wisely accepted and his career is slowly coming in full swing.
In 2011, Yaw Siki really started to make an impact on the Ghanaian music industry with his “Wop3 Dodo” song and is not looking back.

Batman Samini in Danger
We has received reports of an ongoing wild gambling over dancehall artistes Samini and Jamaican Mavado. With barely five days to the October 1 Mavado show, reports say dancehall music lovers are divided on which of the two stars would outdo the other, with a majority of them betting on Samini.
Prospects of his music career therefore hang in the balance until the concert takes place. Fantasy Entertainment, organizers of the event, has confirmed to NEWS-ONE that it had received similar reports, with some even threatening to deal with Samini and stop being his fans if he failed to live up to expectation during the show.
Madavo is arguably the biggest dancehall artiste currently, after he took the position from Vybz Kartel when the latter started sinking following unconfirmed reports that he was bleaching. Samini however is more accepted in Ghana and is reputed as the king of dancehall music in the country.
The two artistes clashing on one stage on the same night has therefore raised a lot of anxiety and many have reportedly bet huge amounts of money on who would get the loudest audience response on the night.
Fantasy Entertainment told NEWS-ONE that Samini was very aware of the development and had promised to put up a splendid performance.
“This is what I like doing best; exhibiting the real Samini when a big platform presents itself. And playing alongside the undoubted current king of his genre, I can only say you’ve not seen anything until you see my surprise act on October 1,” Samini noted.
Billed to be held at the Accra Sports Stadium, the organizers say they are stopping at nothing to ensure that they deliver a successful concert.

Armed Robbers Attack Obour
The newly elected President of the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) Bice Osei Kufour, has already attracted the attention of armed robbers after being in office for barely a month.
Dj Oxygen Empire gathered that the “Konkontiba” hit maker’s new Jaguar saloon car was vandalized by daring fully armed robbers, after having information that Obour has received an amount $100,000 given to MUSIGA by Dr. Kofi Amoah as seed money, to restructure the union.
Spokesperson for MUSIGA, Okyeame Kwame, confirmed the incident on Peace FM’s “Entertainment Review”. According to Okyeame Kwame, the armed robbers thought the $100,000 was in Obour’s car so they broke into the car but fortunately or unfortunately, they were disappointed because the money was not in the car. Though Obour was not in the car during the operation, his car was badly damaged.
The incident took place at the Labone Coffee Shop in Accra, on Wednesday September 14, 2011; the same day, Dr. Kofi Amoah officially presented the cheque of $100,000 to the MUSIGA executives at Citizen Kofi in Osu. “They broke into Obour’s car immediately we left Citizen Kofi, but by the grace of God Obour, our new MUSIGA President was driving brand new Jaguar, so immediately they hit the glass the alarm sounded very loud, and they run away and people rushed to the scene. If it was not the alarm, they would have succeeded in their operation”, Kwame narrated.
Okyeame Kwame confirmed that Obour and his executives have received the money from Dr. Kofi Amoah, adding that Dr. Amoah advised them not to think that they know all the solutions to the problems of MUSIGA. “He advised that we should use some of the money for research about music and musicians in Ghana and all over the world, to be able to know how things are done in other countries where music is well developed, and how we can inculcate their system into Ghana to make Ghanaian musicians rich, and give our music more value”, Kwame explained.
In another development, MUSIGA President Obour led an entourage of MUSIGA executives and musicians to visit imprisoned popular music producer and artiste manager, Isaac Abaidoo, popularly known as Goodies at the Nsawam Maximum Prison.
Okyeame Kwame revealed that immediately Obour won the election in Tamale, he (Obour) said one of the first things dear to his heart was to visit Goodies in Prison, so he only fulfilled his heart’s desire, and his vision to support prisoners all over the country. Goodies who seemed surprised on seeing Obour and several musicians, expressed his excitement at the honour done him by the visit of the MUSIGA leadership, and thanked them for the visit.
Okyeame Kwame noted that MUSIGA intends to collaborate with the Prisons service to organize entertainment for the prisoners in a form of soccer matches between musicians and prisoners, in addition to other musical events. This is part of efforts by MUSIGA to help reorient the prisoners and also encourage them to be positive about their lives whilst in prison.
According to Okyeame, the visit was also to change the perception about prisoners and also encourage families of prisoners to support them while in prison, and to welcome them wholeheartedly when they are released.
Goodies had been very supportive in the strengthening of MUSIGA in the past. He single handedly saw to the establishment a Hiplife office within the MUSIGA office to specifically see to the welfare and issues concerning Hiplife musicians. Goodies is presently serving a thirteen year-jail term for narcotics offences. This was what the Rap Doctor told Peace FM’s “Entertainment Review.

Pop Singer Jon Germain Covers American Rock Classic
Ghanaian pop singer Jon Germain has released a brand new single as a prelude to his sophomore album “ENIGMA”. The song which would not make the track listing of the upcoming album is currently attracting lots of attention and making huge waves across the continent.
In Jon’s own words “Like every huge music star, Whitney Houston' biggest hit “I WILL ALWAYS LOVE YOU” was a Dolly Parton song, Diddy’s biggest selling single “MISSING YOU, is a “STING AND THE POLICE” song, Rod Stewart’s biggest hit is by Cat Stevens, Micheal Jackson's big solo hit “Ain't no sunshine” was originally by Bill Waters, So is Jay Z and Mr Hudson’s Forever Young by German band ALPHAVILLE”.
He continues “I have always wanted to re record a hit rock song. So this is it “HERE WITHOUT YOU” is originally written and performed by Grammy award winning American Rock band 3 DOORS DOWN, written by lead singer Brad Arnold.”
Huge compliments should flood the camp of the song maker for his ability to take such a huge classical song and adapt it so well, you wonder if it’s the original.
The song has changes in instrumentation and an introduction of rap by X.O which the original lacks.
The song was recorded and produced by UBEATZ Studio, Ephraim studio and XO's studio. As fans anticipate the release of the second album ENiGMA, which is a follow up of the Hit pop/ rock Album “THIS IS WHO I AM”, this single is just the right move.

4-Year SHS Produces Unprecedented Results
Information reaching Dj Oxygen Empire indicates that the first batch of students who went through the four-year Senior High School system introduced by the erstwhile Kufuor-led New Patriotic Party administration, and truncated prematurely by the Mills-Mahama led National Democratic Congress administration, in fulfillment of a partisan manifesto pledge, have recorded a very impressive results in the West African Senior Secondary Certificate Examination they took in April-May, this year.
Our sources among members of the Conference of Heads of Assisted Senior Secondary Schools who corroborated the information said many schools across the country have produced results that are unprecedented since the inception of the Senior Secondary (now Senior High) School system.
Even though the full statistics of the results are yet to be made public by the West African Examination Council, many teachers the Dj Oxygen Empire has contacted say the results of their schools are devoid of the usual abysmal performance often associated with some core subjects, especially English Language, Mathematics and Integrated Science.
“The results of my students are just fantastic and both the students and their parents are overwhelmed with joy. So far the results my students have accessed through the internet indicate that even the weak ones obtained at least C6 in my subject,” Dennis Kwakwa, a Biology teacher at the Kumasi Girls Senior High School, told the Dj Oxygen Empire at the weekend.
The results come as a vindication of the wisdom in the decision by the previous Kufuor-led New Patriotic Party administration to extend the duration of the SHS programme from three years to four years.
On the other hand, the results come as an embarrassment for the incumbent Mills-Mahama led National Democratic Congress government that intractably disregarded expert advice to allow the new system to run for some time and went ahead to revert it to three years, against the wishes and aspirations of majority of Ghanaians.
Acting on expert, professional advice, the Kufuor administration extended the duration of SHS from three years to four years, as part of the 2007 educational reforms arising our the work carried out by the Anamuah-Mensah Committee.
The decision of the Kufuor administration was supported by both the Conference of Heads of Assisted Senior Secondary Schools and the Conference of Heads of Private Second Cycle Schools, as well as overwhelming Ghanaians, especially students, teachers and parents who are the major stakeholders of education.
The Mills-Mahama led NDC government, upon assumption of office, however, took what many described as a partisan decision to revert the four-year duration to three years, ostensibly to fulfill a manifesto promise.
Even though the decision was met with a lot of opposition from majority of Ghanaians, going by the public debate of the issue, President Mills and his government remained adamant in their resolve to fulfill a campaign pledge.
Those in support of the four-year duration, such as Prof Addae-Mensah, former Vice Chancellor of the University of Ghana, were of the view that increasing the duration of the SHS programme would help reverse the high number of students who were unable to qualify for admissions into the universities and other tertiary institutions.
Nana Oboedum V, National President of the Conference of Heads of Private Second Cycle Schools, noted at the time that it had become obvious that products of the three-year secondary school had less holistic educational opportunities.
“We are on the ground and we know what is happening; four years of secondary education should be better in our current circumstances,” he stated in an interview with the GNA.
In the view of Nana Oboedum, four years would “enable students cope with problematic core subjects like English Language, Mathematics, Integrated Science, Social Studies and ICT, which are taught at the first year before elective subjects are added in the second year”.
On the other hand, opponents of the four-year programme had maintained that the dismal academic performance at the Senior High school level did not lie in the extension of the duration.
This generated a lot of public debate, compelling the government to organise a national forum on the duration in May 2010, in an attempt to obtain a national consensus.
Even though a consensus could not be reached, and it was also clear that the majority of Ghanaians, including teachers, parents and students of the Senior High Schools, were in favour of the four-year duration, the Mills-Mahama government decided to sacrifice national collective interest and aspiration on the altar of meeting parochial partisan desire

50% Of Graduates Not Likely To Get Jobs - VC
Former Director of the Institute of Statistical Social and Economic Research (ISSER) and now Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ghana, Professor Ernest Aryeetey has said that about 50 percent of university graduates are likely not to find jobs after their national service.
According to him, Ghanaians continue to face unemployment problems because government policies over the years, have not properly addressed the issues.
“For twenty years, we have always said that unemployment deserves greater attention in policy and that government policies are also not likely to lead to any major job creation simply because those policies are designed for a free market economy, but here the market is not really free.
"There are too many structural constraints that cannot be erased simply through policy.
“But I know that 50% of students who leave our universities will not gain employment for about two years after national service and about 20% of that will not find jobs for about three years and these are the kind of figures we, in this country should be concerned about”.
He was speaking at the launch of ISSER’s report on the state of the economy.
Professor Aryeetey suggested that in solving the problem, there is the need for a proper industrial policy that will address the issues perpetually. The Vice-Chancellor said that with the current problem, many university graduates will be unemployed for a while.

WANLOV DA KUBOLOR
Emmanuel Owusu Bonsu (Wanlov) was born to Romanian mother and a Ghanaian father. He was raised in Ghana, he is fluent in Twi, English, Romanian, and Pidgin. He has been residing in the states for the last five years, from east to west coasts and everywhere in between. Ten years ago, he began paving the way for his upcoming music career. As many young Hiphop heads, he began rapping his favorite lyrics with high school friends and performing the local circuit in Cape Coast & Takoradi, Ghana while attending Adisadel College.
Known as Spooky, he was well known for his performances in which he emulated popular acts, from Busta Rhymes' vivacious delivery to Snoop's debonair flows. With his pure, unadulterated talent, charisma, and lyrical skill, he is taking his message of awareness, to the masses. Upon immediate arrival in the states (to pursue higher education) Wanlov proved his skill in the freestyle circuit of the south. Within two years of residence in Temple, Texas, Wanlov, then still known as Spooky, won over the respect of local emcees in the Central Texas area.
After performing at local events and shows he eventually ventured out of Texas making his imprint on both coasts. One of his most memorable experiences was performing with Boundleczz of the Rapskallyonz for DJ Hi-Tek in Cincinnati, OH who personally let them know how awed he was after their performance and that he was looking forward to working with them. That stroke of good luck went bad right after Wanlov left Boundleczz in Ohio and headed back to Texas. Boundleczz had to re-locate to Chicago for personal reasons losing important contacts in the process especially D.J Hi-Tek.
Wanlov on the other hand went through I.N.S abduction to a private holding facility in Laredo, TX for school status reasons. A transformation took place during this ordeal and Wanlov came out feeling the pain of injustice inflicted on him and most of the detainees he met in there and along the way.
This spurred the independent release of Bail Money which is a cry for help to his friends, family, and fans, giving a detailed account of the hardships he went through during that period. The song got the attention of Source Magazine Editor Geo Hagan, then freelance writing for The Ave Magazine, who decided to give Wanlov exposure he felt he deserved. A few months later he was featured in the Spring 04 edition of The Ave Magazine as a trilingual conscious emcee to keep an eye on.
Seeing how hard it was to get into the music industry, with positive, socially conscious messages while maintaining secular appeal, Wanlov decided to start an indie record label with his childhood best friend and fellow Hiphop junkie Gerald Hagan. This has provided Wanlov the base to promote himself as well as seek other conscious artist to work with. Though a young label, Roar Entertainment is getting recognized by the fans and its future looks bright.
In the early months of 2005, Wanlov performed religiously at Project Blowed in Los Angeles̢۪s Leimert Park (an African American cultural hub in LA) every Thursday night. He has earned the respect from the local and visiting emcees, deejays, and breakers alike. Project Blowed is one of the most demanding assemblies of underground Hiphop artists on the planet; Wanlov has had several performances there and unlike many emcees new on the scene, Wanlov has never been asked to 'please pass the mic.' Each performance says a lot about Wanlov as an emcee. He captivates audiences regardless of the coast. The people see he's got what it takes and he keeps them coming back for more.
After enjoying success among the Ghanaian communities in the US, Wanlov has recently returned to Ghana to promote his music. He released his first album, 'Green Card' as 'Konkonsa' in Ghana due to the popularity of his said title track in Ghana. He has already performed in several venues throughout Ghana and collaborated with several artists including his Pidgen Records mate King Ayisoba.

Blakk Rasta celebrates Abedi Ayew Pele
Soccer maestro Abedi Pele, has given a no-holds-barred interview on his family, soccer life and more. Abedi who was on Hitz FM with the indefatigable Blakk Rasta was in the studio for over an hour baring his all to the world.
Pundits were surprised when Blakk Rasta announced that the Maestro was in the studio with him. This is due to the fact that Abedi hasn’t granted a one-on-one interview in a long while.
Coming in the wake of the epic performance of his club, Nania FC in their giant killing feat when they beat Fabulous Kumasi Asante Kotoko in the MTN FA Cup final, Abedi Pele spoke about his infancy, soccer career, Ghana soccer and his family life.
The ex-skipper of the Black Stars told Blakk Rasta on the latter's
Taxi Driver’s Black Sense segment that for him, soccer was a passion he indulged in for fun playing without any consideration for money as a teenager.
The teenage prodigy that he was, Abedi Pele began his career with Real Tamale United from where he began wearing the national colours at the age of 16. Before then Abedi had won the Colts Footballer of the Year, heralding a bright soccer future.
As a youngster growing up at Dome in Accra, he was referred to as Dome Pele during his colts days with Great Falcos.
According to him as a teenager, his major problem in football was women because due to his exceptional skills, he had many admirers and they were virtually all over him.
He recalls that at the age of 16 years, he inscribed on a stone at the Ghana Secondary School in Tamale that he ought to play for the Black Stars, a prediction he saw through at age 17.
Speaking of his family, Abedi told Blakk Rasta that contrary to popular speculations, he did not deny his first son Rahim, otherwise he wouldn't be living with him. He explained that he was a bit surprised to return home from Qatar to realize that he had a son but he was advised by former Vice President Alhaji Aliu Mahama and one B.F. Fuseini to accept him.
On the subject of drugs, he says that he never tried it though he was close to people who used all manner of drugs.
Sharing his experience in professional soccer, he told Blakk Rasta that he doesn’t recall any game in which he failed to rise to the occasion.
The maestro acknowledged Stanley Aborah, a former midfielder with the Black Stars as one of the splendid players who had courage, passion and determination for the game.
Abedi Ayew advised football enthusiasts to support the local league and Ghana football as a whole so that the game would flourish.
At the height of his career, Abedi featured for Marseille in France and won numerous honours.
Other clubs he featured for included Al Sadd, AS Dragons FC, Chamois Niort FC, FC Mulhouse, Lille, Lyon, Torino, 1860 Munich and Al Ain.
Currently Abedi Pele is a very successful businessman and club owner. Three of his sons, Rahim, Dede and Jordan have played for the national teams at various times with Dede being the most popular of his sons. Dede is widely touted to even surpass the Maestro’s achievements having led the national Under-20 team to conquer the world.
