Buk Bak, Ghana’s exciting musical duo, has been caught on camera in a fishing canoe along the Chorkor beach in Accra, singing their new song, ‘Fisherman’s Anthem: You Saw Me’.
The group, comprising Prince Bright aka Bling Sparkles and Ronnie Coches, recently bounced back to mainstream music after abandoning the stage for some five years. Buk Bak is on record as the first hiplife group in Ghana to be successful with Ga lyrics and also top music charts with songs in Twi, English and Pidgin.
NEWS-ONE caught up with Bright and Ronnie for an exclusive chat:
Fisherman’s Anthem The idea is to launch this album by the end of the year. For now we are releasing the tracks in singles and we are grateful to Ghana that we have been accepted back. When we see people singing and dancing to the track, we just get a sort of encouragement. I think we should salute radio guys and all of you for this.
Profane
‘Fisherman’s Friend: You Saw Me’ is not profane. It may be interpreted in Ga to sound a bit of what you are thinking but that is not the aim. We do not do profane songs, it is not our style and we have never believed that a song should be profane before it sells.
We have the track record to prove this. Take it from the days of ‘Komi Ke Kena’ all through ‘Condom’ and ‘What Dem Plan’ and you would get an understanding of what we stand for. We stand for entertainment and not profanity.
The Dream
We are happy to be back in music and we are ready to do our best to satisfy our fans. By God’s grace, we shall not disappoint any of you guys. We have something to offer this country and that is what keeps driving us. We have a contribution to make, a mission to accomplish and a music industry to build.
We dream of helping the upcoming ones to become great and even greater than us. Take for instance 4×4 or Castro or Pope Skinny or K-2 and you would understand our contribution to this industry. They all trace their history to Buk Bak and if we can do it for them, we can do it for the current upcoming ones too.
The Comeback
On December 17 this year, we shall stage the Buk Bak Comeback Concert and that is what we are working on for now. It would be Buk Bak and friends and we can assure you that the show would be great. It does not mean we would stay away from shows. We would continue to honor invitations and respond to contracts.
The Breakup
That happened in the past, we would like to focus on the future. No serious person keeps living in the past. Something happened, we’ve expressed regret and learnt from our mistakes, the way forward is to move on and plan for the future but not to keep talking about the past.
Once we have learnt a lesson from that, we should move on. We should focus on the album we are working on as we continue to rehearse for shows.

Tic Tac starts Club 2 Club tour November 5
One Ghana’s Most Wanted celebrated and seasoned rap artistes, Nana Kwaku Duah popularly known on stage as Tic Tac, is about to embarking on a Club 2 Club tour this November.
With six albums to his credit, Tic Tac still remains an unassailable artiste with immense experience in his belt, gifted with an original style of flow that sets him apart from the field.
Fefe ne Efe, Philomena, Kangaroo, Shoddies, Beware of dogs and other international hits by Tic over the years have been the toast of several events and radio plays.
Tic Tac is about to release his seventh album, Ghana 4 U which already has two hot tracks, In The Gallo which features Gyadu Blay Ambulley and Feel The Heat also featuring the US based The Canz and Myshel, enjoying rotations on radio.
The tour which is a pre-album, party and video premiere is planned to give fans an opportunity to enjoy the first time showing of the two videos In the Gallo and Feel The Heat.
The Club 2 Club tour, according to Tic Tac who spoke to Joy FM (ACCRA) in an interview,That this is his “seventh album and the number seven(7) means a lot to him because of that he thought of going to the clubs with the music and also giving my fans the opportunity to have that one-on-one interaction for the first time and also see me perform snippets of the tracks they should expect from my upcoming album.”
The tour will take Tic Tac to Vienna City Nite Clubs in Takoradi, Kumasi, Accra and Tema, beginning November 5 from Tarkoradi.
Revelers in Kumasi will feel the Tic Tac magic on November 12 when the tour hits Oseikrom. Tema and Accra will have theirs on November 19 and November 26 respectively.
Although Tic Tac will headline this tour, other chart topping acts have been billed to make appearances on the tour. He will not give out names but said, “Trust me I am bringing on board some of the biggest names when it comes to Ghanaian music today.”
Tic Tac explained that the rationale behind the choice to get close to his fans via the night clubs is that “most of the songs make hits through the clubs and there are some die-hard Tic Tac fans who will always love to go to the club. Such fans are the primary targets.”
“We are trying to satisfy people who go to the clubs to listen to our music and not only listen to it from other mediums like the TV.”

Stay J, Eduwuji fight over "Yen ko nkuaa"
Not long ago, this two(2) Musicians came out with the only song “Yen Ko nkuaa” creating waves on the music scene since it was released last March, but it is also wedging a huge rift between two hip life artistes: Eduwuji and Stay J.
Both artistes are laying claim to the song. While Eduwuji, real name Raymond Eduwuji Gbedze, is accusing Stay J of breaching the contract between them not to sing the song at shows without him since he (Eduwuji) had made a one off payment of GH¢1,500 to Stay J to just feature on it, Stay J of “Shashewoowo” fame claims he has every right to perform “Yen ko nkuaa” without Eduwuji because he is the original composer of the song.
In an interview with Graphic Showbiz last Tuesday, Eduwuji said he wrote the entire song by himself and that Stay J only sang the Twi part.
“In fact it was a demo I wanted to master at sound engineer, Kaywa's studio and because we were both then on the same record label, Under One Entertainment, the management suggested that Stay J who was already out with “Shashewoowo”, should do the chorus which he did, but Stay J is not the owner of the song,” Eduwuji said.
“In fact the chorus which Stay J sings: “So me ha na so me ha……” was initially written in English as “Hold my here, hold that” and he only translated it into Twi. If the song belongs to him, why did I have to pay him GH¢1,500 to feature on it?” he asked.
Eduwoji said Stay J had performed the song on several platforms knowing he didn't have the right to do so. “He goes about saying the song is his. I have respected him all this time but it seems he has no regard for contracts. If this situation continues, I'm afraid I have no option than to get my lawyers to write to him”, Eduwuji stated.
William Kojo Johnson, aka Stay J, however, said after releasing “Shashewowo”, he decided to help Eduwuji out by featuring him on Yen Ko nkuaa.
“It's rather unfortunate Eduwuji is saying he owns the song. I only asked him to sing on “Yen Ko nkuaa” just because we were on the same record label. I felt because he sang only in Ewe, it would be difficult for him as an up-coming artiste, so I decided to feature him on “Yen Ko nkuaa” to get him the exposure. Is this my reward for helping him out?” asked Stay J.
Stay J said if Eduwuji wants to ride on his back to be famous he has no problem with that but he cannot accept the lies he (Eduwuji) is peddling around about the song.
“Yen ko nkuaa” was supposed to be released on an Under One Entertainment compilation but out of greed, Eduwuji claimed ownership of the song. I rest my case in the hands of God, but I know the truth about who actually owns the song will come out one day,” said Stay J.
Stay J also denied the allegation that he was paid GH¢1,500 by Eduwuji's management not to perform the song on any platform.
“The money was rather paid to me for allowing him to sing the Ewe part of my song. My manager asked Eduwuji to take care of the recording of the beat and video clip which cost GH¢ 1000 if they wanted to be part of the song. I also demanded for additional GH¢500 for the clothes I had bought for the video clip. That's how come they gave me GH¢ 1,500”, he added.

Kwabena Kwabena Fights For Obour
Ghana’s sensational singer, Kwabena Kwabena has condemned the behaviour of some Ghanaians who have started criticizing MUSIGA President Bice Osei Kufuor, few months after taking over the mantle of the music union.
Kwabena Kwabena was upset at the time of speaking to The Weekend Moment saying “Obour is barely some few weeks old in office and he is just about to kick start his plans, but some Ghanaians have already started criticizing the president, a thing that may cause the downfall of the union if not checked”.
He called on Obour to stay focus and never allow any criticism that may come from any corner of the country to destruct him from his intentions for the union.
He continued that “the behaviour of Ghanaians doesn’t speak well of us and its unfortunate to see these things increasing daily in the country, not only in the music cycles but in how we do politics in the country”. The silky voice hi-life singer said plans are far advanced to make the Ghana music industry a formidable one in no time.
“Just at the ruling N.D.C took over from N.P.P administration, the same as the sitting president Obour also took from Diana Hopeson setting regulations and structures”. He said.
He charged Ghanaians to unite and make the country a better place to stay, instead of turning everything into politics in the country.

Now my next thing is to bring on the Golden Globe awards, and the Oscars, you have to dream big. People say that aim for the moon. If you don’t succeed at least you will be among the stars. Right now I feel I am among the stars and I only want to aim higher. I want to keep getting better and by God’s grace I will get better roles and improve. Now I really had to work harder than before,” she said after she received her AMAA statuette.
She has once again earned an enviable recognition in Africa’s movie industry by winning the Best Actress Award at the Zimbabwe Film Festival.

Jayso and Sarkodie To Release A Joint-Album
Remember Jay-Z and R Kelly’s ‘Best of Both Worlds’ and more recently Jay-Z and Kanye West’s ‘Watch the Throne’?
Well, Ghana may soon see its version of such a collaboration between two distinctive forces within the hiplife game as it exists currently. According to sources, Jayso and Sarkodie have been secretly cooking up a joint-collaboration album which is almost ready to hit the market.
The project is reportedly titled ‘The Mind Game’ but is subject to change upon completion of the album. The source also hinted that there will be surprise guest appearances from across Africa, UK and the US.
This isn’t the first time the two rappers will be working together; Jayso produced most of the tracks on Sarkodie’s hit debut album, ‘Maa Kye’ and featured on some of the songs as well.

Spain's Billionaire Duchess Remarries At 85 Years Of Age
She is a frizzy-haired 85-year-old eccentric and hugely wealthy aristocrat with a squeaky voice and an impossibly long name. He is a lowly civil servant 25 years her junior. Today the two were married, prompting a frenzy of excitement in this southern Spanish city.
Crowds formed outside Seville's Dueñas Palace – just one of several regal residences the Duchess of Alba owns around Spain – as she, her family and a few friends gathered for a small ceremony for her marriage to Alfonso DĂez in the palace's private chapel.
The billionaire duchess, who has been known to ask the media for money in the past, allowed in just two news agencies – for free.
"She is an amazing woman. She does whatever she wants and doesn't give a damn what people say," said 18-year-old tourism student Ana Trigo, as she fought for space on the pavement outside the Dueñas's imposing gates. "I know she's got lots of money, but that's just the luck of birth isn't it?"
A neatly groomed priest, a flamenco singing troupe, innumerable bunches of roses, sunflowers and carnations, and at least two bullfighter guests made their way into the palace complex as security guards pushed back the crowd of gawping, shouting Sevillanos.
"I've written a paso doble and want to sing it for her," said composer Vicente TarrancĂłn, who travelled the 300 miles from Alicante with an electric piano and a violinist but who remained firmly outside the palace gates.
Onlookers mostly were not disturbed by the duchess's inherited wealth, estimated at up to €3.5bn (£3bn), even though one in five Spaniards are currently unemployed and the economy is heading towards a double-dip recession.
Apart from her palaces, the duchess owns huge tracts of land all over Spain and has a collection of paintings that include works by Goya and Velázquez.
"She gives a lot of money to charity and employs a lot of people. And she repaired the church of the Christ of the Gypsies," said housewife Mari Luz González. "She's wonderful."
Cries of "Guapa!" or "Good-looking!" welcomed the pallid duchess when she appeared dressed in a pink wedding dress with a green ribbon around her waist at the palace gates with her new husband. She responded by dancing a few flamenco steps.
Most people, however, seemed to be taking a tongue-in-cheek attitude to the duchess's latest romance and using it as an excuse to indulge in Seville's favoured pastime of partying. At least one onlooker had dressed in a bridal gown. Another came disguised as Spain's monarch, King Juan Carlos, who was reportedly petitioned by the duchess's children to see if he could dissuade their mother from remarrying.
"Let's face it, the scandal is not that he is younger, but that she is so old," said Margarita Ruibal. "It's not every day you hear of someone of that age getting married."
An unemployed man who called himself Buti came dressed as a yoghurt carton to protest at the €40 a day paid to farmworkers. "Here they are, living it up in their palaces while 300 families a day lose their homes in Spain," he said.
The duchess's attempts to stop her six children from squabbling with her husband-to-be over money – by making her will public before the marriage – failed to appease them all, prompting the duchess to call one daughter-in-law "lying, wicked and covetous" on a television gossip show.
The daughter-in-law and her husband were among the few guests who turned down the wedding invitation. "Alfonso doesn't want anything. All he wants is me," the duchess said earlier this year.
Newsstands, meanwhile, displayed the front cover of InterviĂş magazine – which showed topless pictures of the duchess taken three decades ago on an Ibiza beach. The publicity-loving aristocrat was said to be formally furious, but privately delighted, by the flattering figure she boasted when she was a mere fifty-something. The magazine said it had held on to the pictures for 30 years so as not to upset the duchess, but thought them now worth publishing.
Local shops were selling duchess-themed "I love DQS" T-shirts featuring her trademark frizz of white hair. The regional CanalSur TV station beamed live coverage into the city's bars, where unemployed men sold postcards of the Virgin Mary statues that populate Seville's churches.
The duchess, whose full name is MarĂa del Rosario Cayetana Victoria Alfonsa Fitz-James Stuart y de Silva, boasts 49 inherited aristocratic titles – at least 20 of which allow entry into the select club of Spanish Grandees. She also claims the title of Duchess of Berwick and boasts blood ties to the British royal family and Winston Churchill.
Twice widowed, her last husband JesĂşs Aguirre, who had previously been a leftwing Catholic priest, died in 2001.

Prince David Osei Hits Hollywood Red Carpet
The much-awaited Hollywood standard West African-set Zombie feature film, ‘The Dead’, written and directed by Ford Brother’s Howard J. Ford and Jon Ford, which featured Ghanaian actor Prince David Osei, is scheduled to hit Africa cinemas soon.
Last night, Prince David graced the red carpet in Los Angeles where the movie premiered ahead of a scheduled theatrical rollout in over 20 cities across US, starting from October 7.
The New York screening is also planned for October 14 and is expected to be big.
Last night’s premiere took place at the AMC City Walk Stadium 19 in Los Angeles. Already, the film has graced UK big screens and will make its way to Africa very soon.
‘The Dead’, shot in life-threatening regions of Burkina Faso and Ghana, takes audiences on a horrifying road-trip through a zombie-dominated terrain. An American mercenary, the sole survivor of a violent plane crash, maneuvers through the hostile, arid landscape while battling against the newly-risen living dead. Almost losing all hope, he encounters an African soldier desperately searching for his son amongst the chaos. The mercenary and the soldier rise up together to forge their way through the unstoppable assault of the ever-hungry undead and into an uncertain future.
Along with its overseas theatrical run, ‘The Dead’, co-directed and written by UK natives Howard J. Ford and Jon Ford, has been a festival favorite since its debut last year, garnering rave reviews from horror fans and mainstream media alike.
“Out of nowhere a fan base for ‘The Dead’ rose up, much like the zombies themselves, demanding to see it,” co-director and writer Howard J. Ford joyfully intoned in press release on the film’s official site.
“We had hundreds of zombies down at the Cannes Film Festival carrying banners for our movie and turning up as the undead for festival screenings. Now Global Cinema is bringing our movie to the big screen throughout the U.S. I’m thrilled to be traveling with the film and meeting American audiences that have been so supportive of ‘The Dead’ over the past year.”
Prince David Osei reportedly gave a great delivery in the film.
He and veteran actor, David Dontoh, were the only Ghanaian top stars who proved themselves worthy of a role. It is however not clear if David Dontoh is in the USA.
The premiere, hosted by Global Cinema Distribution, gave the cast and crew, as well as other celebrities, the chance to walk the red carpet and enjoy the official US premiere which will be followed by an after-party.
The media checked in at 6.30pm with red carpet arrivals at 7.00pm. Official screening started 8.00pm and ended with the official after-party at Infusion Lounge 9:45pm.
The after party was hosted by the Presidential Inner Circle.

Describing new artistes and the songs they do, he said, “all those people are not stars, they are song stars. Their songs dont last, they only last a week or two and it’s gone.”
“Pop, pop and the boys who do them, most of them are yawa guys. The ayigbe pop, twi pop, nzema pop, whatever pop, all those dem people are yawa guys, ” he said. However, asked whether his statement about twi pop artistes apply to Dr Chryme, he said even though Dr Cryme didn’t create the genre as most people think, he does fine twi pop which should be commended.
Kwaw added that VIP’s ‘I Think I Like Am’ is a serious song and described songs like Shashewowo by Stay Jay, ''The Thing'' by Atumpan, 'U Sey Wetin' by Ziggy and similar songs as good songs, songs of today that are clearing the air for better songs.
Kwaw Kese shares the view of StoneBwoy and he says “If it’s real it has to be hiphop, or reggae or dancehall”, describing what a good real song should be. In addition, he admonished upcoming artistes to be original and stop the imitation staying that singing like Nigerians and using expressions like “I Dey kolo” defeats the Ghanaian heritage of the music being produced by upcoming artistes.

Ghana’s Richest Pastors
Ghana is a predominantly Christian country with several churches and pastors who are perceived to be generally rich, with some of them living affluent lifestyles.
While many have questioned these pastors over their source of income, the general response has been that they do not dip their hands into church coffers. Though they are not as affluent as their Nigerian counterparts, News-One takes a peep into the wealthy lifestyles of some of the leading pastors in Ghana and try to compare which of them may be the wealthiest.

Sam Korankye Ankrah
Apostle General of the Royal House Chapel, Rev. Sam Nii Korankye Ankrah heads a thriving charismatic church that has its headquarters in Accra and a network of branches in many countries. The headquarters holds three services on Sundays, with each having close to 10,000 people in attendance. His children school abroad and he lives in a palace-like mansion at Sakaman Estates in Accra.
Among his fleet of cars News-One has sighted include a Cadillac 4x4, a Toyota Land Cruiser Prado, a Toyata Land Cruiser V8 and a Mercedes Benz ML.
He is on record to have explained his source of wealth as this: “We are blessed and we cannot deny that. The blessing does not only come by means of money but it comes through people that follow us. For example, I have a club in my church called the Kings Club. It is made up of very high-profile people who are doing something in society. Now every month, I pray with them and let them know that God has placed them in their positions so that they can serve people and serve mankind and so on.
Say I have 500 people in the club and it is Christmas or my birthday or my wedding anniversary, by Ghanaian customs and traditions where we honor our fathers, how much do you expect these people to give me? I will not lie to you; say to the whole world that I say that by our position as men of God, we definitely attract blessings of which includes money, but for me it is the following and the people which is more important and the more we serve them, the more they show us kindness at the least opportunity. It is not calculated and intentional; we do not work out these things. It is simply traditional, cultural and human.

Ebenezer Adarkwa yiadom
Prophet Ebenezer Adarkwa Opambour Yiadom is the leader of the Ebenezer Miracle Worship Center in Kumasi. He is on record to have the largest church building and largest congregation in the Ashanti Region, Ghana’s most populated region. Opambour is the owner of Radio Mercury, a Kumasi-based private radio station and he would launch his private television station by the end of this year. He has also built a hundred-building estate which he has christened Island City.
In 2008, Opambour spoke of his wealth and denied that he charged money before he prayed for people: “I have never done that before. It is never true. On Tuesdays I do counseling for free and I do not charge anybody. I will use your medium to challenge anybody that has ever given me money for consultation to come out and speak. On Wednesdays, we have another church service, during which offerings are paid just like any other church. We start from GH¢50 upwards. It is not compulsory and only for those who can afford.
“What happens is that we pray for all those who give offerings and I invite them to my house for counseling, after which I give each of them a bottle of anointing oil and give them divine directions on how to use them. We also give the oil to anybody who pays offering; even if it is GH¢1. I rather give money to my church members. It is true I have good cars because you do not expect me to walk on foot to do God’s work, so as for cars I have got a lot of them; and very good ones of course. No one gets a good car and says he does not like it. I do not have a Hummer; I have never owned one. I have two Chryslers, about two of the latest models and other different types of good cars. It is also true I own a radio station. “I bought Radio Mercury in Kumasi to do God’s work; I bought the station, the entire building and the land on which the building is situated and paid cash for it. So I am not rich but very blessed by God and I do not lack any good thing. Mind you, I use my blessings to help those who do not have.”

Dag Heward-Mills
Bishop Dag Heward-Mills is the overseer of the fast-growing church in Ghana, Lighthouse Chapel international, which has over 1,000 branches and is on every continent. Its headquarters in Ghana, the Qodesh, is undoubtedly the largest church building in Ghana.
Heward-Mills has written close to a hundred Christian books which serves as teaching and learning materials for his congregation worldwide. His source of wealth has been linked to his books but if we should go by the theory that pastors are paid through tithes, the congregation of his church alone should give a clue as to what lands in his bank account monthly.

Duncan-Williams
Archbishop Nicholas Duncan-Williams is known in many parts of the world as the “Apostle of Strategic Prayer.” He is the General Overseer of Christian Action faith Ministries, with over 100 affiliate and branch churches located in North American, Europe, Asia and Africa. It is not for a joke that a private bank decided to open a branch on the premises of Duncan Williams’ Church. Indeed, the bank operates on Sundays to take care of church proceeds.
Papa Duncan has not hidden his good taste for affluence which can easily be noticed from his talk-of-the-town designer suits and flashy fleet of cars.

Agyin Asare
Bishop Charles Agyin Asare is the founder and presiding bishop of the World Miracle Church International and his source of wealth has been linked to proceeds from the sale of his books. His church has some 300 plus branches in Ghana and other countries.

I am A Virgin At 27 And Preserving Myself For My Wife – Ghanaian Actor
Dj Oxygen Empire has come across a 27-year-old Ghanaian actor who says he has never had sex in his life. Actor Eddie Nartey says he will only have sex on his honeymoon night and before that, his sex organ will never enter that of a woman’s.
Eddie Nartey has even thrown a challenge and stated that no lady can ever claim to have seen his nakedness or had sex with him. “Yes, any lady who says I had sex with her should come forward. No one can come because I haven’t. There is no need to prove that I am a virgin. I don’t think any doctor can come and tell me but the fact is I am a virgin. I have dated but haven’t had sex before. Romance yes, but no sex,” Eddie Nartey told News-One yesterday. Am proud to be a virgin,” was his BBM status. “I am preserving myself for my wife”, he told News-One. What is confusing about Eddie’s declaration is the fact that he was recently in the news for fighting director Kobi Rana over an actress when they shot controversial movie, ‘Kiss Me If You Can’.
Eddie is known for his role in movies such as ‘Wedlock of the Gods’, ‘Return of BeyoncĂ©’, ‘Fantasia’ with Rita Dominic, Van Vicker and Yvonne Nelson and ‘Shakira’ with Mercy and Majid Michel. He has also received nominations for awards including the just-ended NAFCA awards in the United States of America.

Praye Tenten parts ways with group
The tallest member of music trio, Praye, Nana Kwame popularly known as Praye Tenten according to reports, has parted ways with the group which also includes Eugene Baah (Praye Ho-ne-ho) and Steven Fiawoo (Praye Tiatia).
Praye which means broom and stands for unity got their big break onto the music scene by winning the maiden Nescafe's African Revelation competitions held in Ghana in 2004. They subsequently went on to emerge West African winners.
They have over the years dazzled Ghanaians with hits such as Shordy, Lasupadora, Wodin and Angelina, and have widely been seen as one of Ghana’s most compact and successful music trio.
When joy fm contacted Eugene Baah, a member of the group, he confirmed the story saying, “Praye is still together only that Praye Tenten is no longer with the group.”
He said Nana Kwame left the group about a month ago on mutual grounds, explaining further that Nana Kwame opted to leave the group due to his busy schedules and his quest to explore new frontiers. “We agreed for him to leave.” Eugene stated.
Praye still strong
Eugene, The Choir Master, said as things stand, Praye is still alive and is now made up of Steven Fiawoo (Praye Tiatia) and himself adding, “The group is bigger than an individual. Let’s say 30 percent is out, it’s left with 70 percent.”
The Choir Master played down the effects the exit may have on the group, saying nothing will change when it comes to the vision and music ideology of the group. To prove this, Eugene said they are ready to drop three tracks, Wanting Wanting No Get, Adwoa Ataa and The Night is still Young next week.
The duo, which now makes up Praye, Eugene said, will still ride under the Brooms Entertainment label, a name Praye Tenten per the groups agreement cannot use.
A source has however tell Djoxygen Empire that Praye Tenten has ventured into Engineering and management of new artistes.
Praye apart from winning the maiden Nescafe's African Revelations, also won the Kora award for Best Group from West Africa. They were adjudged New Artiste of the Year in the 2006 Ghana Music Awards Festival with their song Shordy, winning New Hiplife Song of the Year.

Samini meets R&B star Joe over international project
Dancehall heavyweight Emmanuel Andrew Samini has held a private meeting with American R&B super star Joe in Accra last Sunday.
Joe who was on a one-day trip to Ghana requested to meet Samini to discuss his upcoming project which will see the ‘unification’ of the African and American music genres. The deal, according to a source, will see Joe collaborating with some African artistes including Ghana’s own Samini.
Samini confirmed the meeting, which took place from 4pm to 6pm at one of Ghana’s prestigious hangouts, in an interview with Joy fm.On Monday and said, “Joe was passing through Ghana as usual. A link close to me called me to tell me Joe was in town and he wanted to meet me.”
Samini said Joe was looking at having some African flavoured tunes on his upcoming album which forms part of the project, so they discussed “possibilities of me doing something for his project.”
He explained that the project will bring to bear influences from both American urban music and the Ghanaian form of music taking cognizance of their rich cultures and how the artistes, Joe and Samini, grow up in these environments also throwing light on how one can also make it in these environments.
Although the long-term documentary and music project is expected to kick start soon, the immediate agreement at the meeting will see Samini working on a couple of tunes which Samini said, “I will send to him as soon as he lands in the US.”
Applauding the Sunday meeting as “yet another project worth embarking on,” Samini also said it a unique opportunity to introduce himself to the US and world markets: “A step to get mainstream attention, both ends (America and Africa) will be listening.”
The Samini Music CEO said he has been eying the international market for sometime adding, “Joe is a huge name when it comes to entertainment and I think it’s a privilege to work with him.”
Born Joseph Lewis Thomas, Joe's successful music career includes several international hits such as All That I Am, Don’t Wanna Be A Player, I Wanna Know and Treat Her Like A Lady, with nine albums, four compilations and two Christmas albums to his credit.
“I will not blow my own horn," Samini said, adding, "I have won international awards as an artiste. I am currently the only MTV, Music of Black Origin (MOBO) and International Reggae & World Music Awards (IRAWMA) awards holder in Ghana,” making him a viable artiste for international acts.
Samini has four albums to his credit with the fourth, 18-track C.E.O released October last year. Joe Thomas left Accra after the meeting with Samini and is believed to have left for Nigeria.
